FAQs
What issues do you specialize in?
I work with adults navigating anxiety, perfectionism, emotional avoidance, relationship challenges, grief, and life transitions. I especially enjoy supporting high‑achieving professionals who want to keep their edge while developing more ease and flexibility.
What is your therapeutic approach?
I blend ACT and DBT in a practical, down‑to‑earth way. In ACT, we focus on clarifying values, accepting difficult internal experiences, and taking committed action. In DBT, we build skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and effective communication. Together, these approaches help you notice patterns, respond more skillfully, and create a life that feels meaningful, not just “high‑performing.”
What happens in the first session?
We’ll talk about what brings you in, your background, and changes you’re open to making. I’ll share how I think we can work together and we’ll begin a collaborative plan.
You’re welcome to bring notes or questions. The first session is also a chance to makesure we’re a good fit.
How long are sessions and how often do we meet?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes, typically weekly at the start. We can increase the frequency of our meetings during times of high stress. As you make progress toward your goals, we may shift to biweekly or a maintenance cadence that fits your goals and schedule.
Do you offer in‑person or telehealth?
I offer in‑person sessions and secure telehealth for clients located in California. Telehealth is convenient for busy weeks or travel; in‑person can feel grounding, many clients use a mix.
Do you take insurance?
I’m an out‑of‑network provider for most insurance plans and can provide a superbill for you to submit for possible reimbursement. I have a few spaces open for clients who are covered by either Aetna or United Health Care.
What are the payment options?
Payment is due at the time of service. I accept Venmo and personal checks. If you’re using out‑of‑network benefits, I’ll provide a detailed superbill each month (or upon request).
Do you offer sliding‑scale fees?
I reserve a limited number of reduced‑fee spots based on financial need. If cost is a concern, please let me know and we’ll discuss current availability.
What’s your cancellation policy?
I hold your appointment time specifically for you. Cancellations or reschedules with less than 48 hours’ notice are typically charged the full fee, with exceptions for true emergencies. If you’re using insurance, late‑cancel fees are your responsibility.
Is therapy confidential?
Your information is protected by law. There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality—such as concerns about imminent risk to self or others, suspected abuse/neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult, or a valid court order. We’ll review these limits in our first session and I welcome any questions.
What if I’m in crisis?
I am not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can also contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) for 24/7 support. We’ll also create a personalized plan for coping between sessions.
How will we know therapy is helping?
Together we’ll set clear goals and check in regularly. Many clients notice changes like fewer spirals into worry, more ease with naming and riding waves of emotion, better boundaries, and more actions that match their values. If something isn’t working, we’ll adjust.
What if I tried therapy before and it didn’t fit?
That’s common. We’ll talk about what wasn’t helpful and tailor our work to your needs and preferences. My style is collaborative, transparent, and skills‑focused—so you always know why we’re doing what we’re doing.
What can I do to get the most out of therapy?
A few tips clients find helpful: come with a focus for the week, practice skills between sessions (brief, do-able reps beat perfection), notice small wins, and be honest about what feels hard. I’ll provide simple exercises and handouts to make practicing easier.
Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act)
If you’re not using insurance, you’re entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges. I’m happy to discuss this before we begin and anytime during treatment.
Do you work with other providers?
With your written permission, I can coordinate care with your psychiatrist, primary care physician, or other providers to support your goals.
